At the end of last year, according to data from the Croatian Employment Service, there were more than 291,000 unemployed persons in Croatia, which is 3 percent more than a month earlier and in line with the expectations of macroeconomists.
The Croatian Employment Service reported today that in December of last year, 8,609 persons remained unemployed, and that the total number of unemployed reached 291,545, as expected. Five macroeconomists surveyed by Hina estimated, on average, that 9,000 jobs were eliminated in December, and that at the end of last year, 292,000 persons were unemployed. The data on the unemployment rate for December will be published by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics in the second half of this month. Analysts estimate that the unemployment rate in December will reach between 16.5 and 16.8 percent. On average, they expect it to be 16.6 percent, while in November it was 16.1 percent, which is its highest level since April 2007. (H)
