Refreshing. Encouraging. Stimulating. The fact that Dr. Ivo is no longer around. He is no longer at the helm of the Government, the party, the state, and soon perhaps not even in politics as such. If luck prevails. And his intelligence which will conclude that no one wants to see or hear him anymore. Until yesterday, I thought it was less of a miracle to have an African American at the head of the strongest country in the world than to catapult ‘the greatest among Croats’ out of his own party. Jaca knows how to peel potatoes. And make a delicious salad out of them.
However, this does not mean that the octopus has become a cuddly pet. Its darkness has painted Croatian reality for too long. I see behind Jaca familiar faces smeared with all the greases of survival – Milinović, Hebrang, Jandroković, Kalmeta, Šuker, Šeks, Jarnjak. And those who did not faithfully ‘stick’ to the Prime Minister in the frame are old foxes (some are also fickle turncoats) whose hands you never know what they hold – a gift or… I hoped that at least Uncle Luka would fly with Sanader. The rude, uncultured, uneducated second man of the country who, if he had political brains and justice, could eventually be president of himself. And Polančec who, after ‘assisting’ in various scandals, still has the audacity to raise his hand for the ex-prime minister.
Somewhere among Sanader’s admirers, HTV has squeezed in. I promised myself that as a former HTV employee I would not (publicly) comment on the former house, but I would be journalistically blind not to notice how, despite all the equipment, under the command of the Curious Hlo, they ‘did not manage’ to join the press conference. Nova TV made it. But then I read something interesting in the signature at the bottom of the screen during the live broadcast (expected, after everything was over): Mrakov trg! If the slip was not intentional, it is certainly symbolic!
Still, in these rare moments of hope, we should not be burdened by names or the combinatorics of what the moribund opposition will say or do. Sanader’s own goal has opened the door wide to the most important topic around which everyone needs to rally – the survival of the economy. If our companies do not survive, neither Jaca nor any other HDZ or SDP member will have anyone to be prime minister for. All the entrepreneurs I spoke with assure me that the removal of Sanader (then still unconfirmed) and the turning of heads from politics to the economy is the last chance for salvation.
