The Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) has reduced fees for operators in 2010 by 10 percent, as announced by HAKOM.
The agency’s council has adopted a new Regulation on the Payment of Fees for the Operations of HAKOM, which determines the amount and method of payment of fees for HAKOM’s work during 2010, as a measure to facilitate the operation of the Croatian electronic communications market under challenging economic conditions. HAKOM will thus enable more competitive operations for telecom operators by reducing its own fees from the operators’ gross annual revenue by approximately 10 percent.
The new regulation also defines a lower budget for HAKOM compared to 2009, despite the hiring of new experts due to the expansion of the agency’s competencies. The new regulation for the upcoming year includes a series of internal and external measures that will help improve the overall state of the Croatian electronic communications and postal services markets in the medium term, emphasized Miljenko KrviĊĦek, the president of HAKOM’s council, during the presentation of the new regulation.
Since HAKOM is not a user of the state budget, operational funds are secured from fees, specifically those from the total revenue of operators, as well as for the use of addresses and numbers, radio frequency spectrum, and the performance of other tasks in the field of electronic communications and postal services. HAKOM will continue to invest in the projects “e-Agency” and “Looking into the Future” in the upcoming year, aimed at establishing and developing a modern internet portal for HAKOM, as well as creating a framework for systematic analysis and forecasting of technology development and new regulatory issues that arise.
