I am fully activating my role as honorary president of the party starting today, stated Dr. Ivo Sanader at a press conference held in the premises of his party at Trg žrtava fašizma 4.
I am dissatisfied with the leadership of the party, as HDZ has the worst result at the national level since 1989. The responsibility lies not only with candidate Andrija Hebrang. This is a picture of mismanagement in leading the party. It is also part of my responsibility, so I will fully activate myself starting today. HDZ is not a party of 12 percent, but a winning party – said Sanader.
He stated that he made a mistake when he withdrew from active politics. He praised the work of Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor, expressed full support for her work, and announced his return to the Parliament.
The decision to completely withdraw from active politics was a mistake. My moratorium on a possible return to Parliament expires on January 15, and after that, anything is possible. HDZ is a winning party, not a party of 12 percent – said the former Prime Minister.
He took part of the responsibility for the poor rating in the presidential elections because he believes that his withdrawal from active politics reduced the chances of victory. He requested the HDZ Presidency to support one of the two remaining candidates in the second round of the presidential elections.
When asked what his activation means, Sanader replied that as honorary president, he has the right to convene the central bodies of the party and actively participate in them. He stated that these bodies do not function at all today, nor do they meet.
On this occasion, the former Prime Minister also distanced himself from the ATM affair and the dubious dealings of the Croatian Postal Bank. He emphasized that he has no connection with the operations of HPB, nor with the sale of Hypo Bank. (www.hrt.hr)
