In the period from January to the end of November last year, Croatia exported goods worth 50.6 billion kuna, which is 21 percent less than in the same period the previous year, while at the same time imports decreased by 26.3 percent, to 103 billion kuna, according to preliminary data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics.
Croatia’s trade exchange with foreign countries continues to be characterized by a smaller decline in exports than in imports and a reduction in the foreign trade deficit, which amounted to 52.4 billion kuna in the January-November period and decreased by 30.8 percent year-on-year.
The coverage of imports by exports in the first eleven months of 2009 was 49.1 percent. Expressed in euros, Croatian exports in the eleven months of last year amounted to 6.9 billion euros, while imports were 14 billion, resulting in a deficit of 7.1 billion euros. Compared to the same period the previous year, exports expressed in euros fell by 22.3 percent, imports by 27.5 percent, while the deficit decreased by 31.9 percent. (H)
