The Largest Drop of Crobex in the Last Month

The pessimism in the face of an uncertain 2010 has affected domestic investors, leading to the stock index recording its largest daily drop since October 26. The construction and shipping sectors again performed the worst, while the stock of Istraturist stood out in terms of liquidity.

The penultimate trading week of the year took place in an atmosphere of widespread investor pessimism. Crobex plummeted by a significant 2.05 percent, closing at 1,936 points, while Crobex 10 weakened by 1.02 percent. Despite a good portion of Croatian analysts predicting that the index value could be around 2,300 points by the end of the year, it can already be said today that they were mistaken. The total turnover on the ZSE amounted to 24.188 million kuna with only five stocks having million-kuna turnover.

The most liquid was HT with a total turnover of five million kuna and a price drop of 0.73 percent, closing at 268 kuna. The stock of Istraturist had a turnover just ten thousand kuna lower, which weakened by 1.76 percent today. The reasons for such high turnover are unknown, especially given that the largest shareholders of Istraturist are various investment funds. As is often the case when the entire market moves in one direction, today the stocks of shipping and construction companies suffered the most. Atlantska plovidba is down by 3.05 percent (1.6 million kuna turnover), Uljanik plovidba by 2.88 percent (539 thousand kuna turnover), and Jadroplov by as much as 5.52 percent (524 thousand kuna turnover).

The construction companies fared even worse today. IGH is down by 4.58 percent (1.5 million kuna turnover), Ingra by 2.83 percent (1.2 million kuna turnover), and Dalekovod by 3.57 percent (608 thousand kuna turnover). The best indicator of today’s market pessimism is the fact that the first stock by turnover that was in the plus was Leda, which rose by 0.65 percent with 463 thousand kuna turnover. Given the lack of good news, both domestically and globally, it seems that the remaining trading days will also pass in a rather stagnant atmosphere on the stock exchange. (Amir Kulenović)
