Hungary has filled its central storage for strategic gas reserves, which now contains 1.2 billion cubic meters of this energy source, reported the Hungarian Hydrocarbon Stockpiling Association (MSZKSZ) on Monday.
The capacity of the underground storage is 1.9 billion cubic meters, of which 1.2 billion will be used for emergency reserves and an additional 700 million for commercial purposes. The storage is a joint project of the Hungarian oil and gas group Mol, which holds a 72.5 percent stake, and the MSZKSZ stockpiling association, with a 27.5 percent share. An additional 200 million cubic meters of strategic gas reserves are stored in the facility of the German energy company E.ON. The strategic gas reserves are expected to cover daily gas supply of 20 million cubic meters over a period of 45 days. It is estimated that Hungary’s daily consumption this year ranged between 11 and 12 billion cubic meters of gas. The average daily consumption in winter is between 65 and 75 million cubic meters.
