Former Minister of Economy and Deputy Prime Minister Damir Polančec was interrogated yesterday morning by the police in Koprivnica. He left the station alone but received a fine for forgetting to pay for parking.
The police reportedly questioned Polančec about Operation Spice, which caused Podravka to suffer damages of at least 310 million kuna. Suspicions that Polančec may know more about Podravka’s operations than he admits were prompted by the testimony of Miroslav Vitković, Podravka’s manager. He allegedly told USKOK that Polančec, when he entered the government in 2006, held several secret meetings with individuals from Podravka’s management. According to Vitković, a plan was devised at these meetings to take over ownership control of Podravka. Besides Polančec, all those from Podravka who are now in custody were present at the meetings.
