The network equipment manufacturer LM Ericsson announced on Tuesday that it plans to eliminate nearly one thousand jobs in Sweden, as some of them have become redundant due to more efficient production.
Ericsson stated that it has begun negotiations with unions regarding the closure of the facility in Gävle, 170 kilometers north of Stockholm, where 856 workers were previously employed. A notice of termination has also been sent to 90 workers at the facility in Borås in southern Sweden. The company, headquartered in Stockholm, announced that the main reason for the layoffs is new and more advanced products that have resulted in ‘reduced workload’.(H)
