The new excise duties on beer, which will be applied from January 1st of next year, should not increase the operations of breweries in Croatia. As explained by Pero Ivanković, president of the Beer, Malt, and Hops Production Group, this is merely an alignment with the legal regulations of the European Union.
Excise duties on beer will no longer be calculated per hectoliter, but rather by the percentage of alcohol. Until now, the fee was 200 kuna per hectoliter of beer, and in the future, the excise duty will be 40 kuna per percentage of alcohol. Since the average beer has five percent alcohol, the adjustment of excise duties to European rules should not increase the costs for breweries. (A. K.)
