The situation at HRT and the potential initiation of the dismissal procedure for the Director General of HRT and other members of the management board will be discussed on December 8, the HRT Program Council decided today, where HTV Director Blago Markota proposed the dismissal of the Editor-in-Chief of the HTV News Program, Hloverka Novak Srzić.
Presenting a report on the reasons for the dissatisfaction of some journalists from the HTV News Program, which the Council requested from him, Markota stated that based on objective analyses of viewership, marketing, employee feedback, and the perception of other media about HTV, there is no indication that the situation will turn around from the negative trend. Therefore, he proposed the initiation of the dismissal procedure for Hloverka Novak Srzić. He also stated that the Editor-in-Chief of the HTV News Program, who did not attend the meeting due to illness, failed to seek the opinion of the Ethics Committee in the case of journalist Ana Jelinić.
Markota believes that the procedure to determine whether the HRT Code of Ethics has been violated should have been initiated first, and only then should a decision be made regarding the potential transfer to another position of the former editor of the program “Dossier.hr”. Markota suggested to the Director General of HRT, Vanja Sutlić, that based on his authority, he initiate a procedure to determine the responsibility of both Hloverka Novak Srzić and Ana Jelinić. He asserted that it is Sutlić’s duty to dismiss the Editor-in-Chief of the HTV News Program if it is determined that she has violated the Media Act.
