Slovenian gross domestic product (GDP) in the third quarter of this year increased by one percent compared to the previous, second quarter, while on an annual basis, compared to the third quarter of last year, it is realistically lower by 8.3 percent, the Slovenian Statistical Office announced today at a press conference.
This is the second consecutive quarterly growth of GDP this year, compared to the previous quarter, as GDP in the second quarter increased by 0.6 percent compared to the first. At the same time, this is also the fourth consecutive quarter of GDP decline on an annual basis, compared to quarterly results from the previous year. The first quarterly decrease in GDP, caused by the economic crisis and recession, was recorded in the last quarter of last year when the annual decline in GDP compared to the same period the previous year was 6.2 percent.
The largest decline so far was recorded in the second quarter when GDP on an annual basis decreased by 9.2 percent. Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor last week at a press conference, summarizing the results of the first year of his government’s operation, assessed that the economic crisis in Slovenia, which occurred after his government took power, peaked this year. He announced a slow recovery in the next few years, during which GDP, according to government estimates, could grow by one to three percent annually. (H)
