Starting today, Croatia will proceed on its path towards the European Union at an accelerated pace, and all ministers will personally have to check every day the status of work in their respective departments. This was stated by Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor after a two-hour meeting with the EU negotiation team.
All the work we are undertaking from today is also European work, and we now view Croatia as the 28th member of the EU, she emphasized. She stated that Croatia will invest nearly four billion kuna in 2010 and 2011 for EU adjustments. This includes securing a new Schengen border where 5,000 Croatian police officers will be stationed. The Prime Minister also announced the establishment of a payment agency in the field of agriculture, as well as new discussions next week regarding the fate of the shipyards.
As priority tasks in the chapters of agriculture and market competition, she mentioned the establishment of a payment agency in agriculture, whose head will be selected through a tender, and announced the issuance of a new tender for the privatization of shipyards by the end of next week. Regarding Chapter 23 – judiciary and fundamental rights, the opening of which is disputed due to the so-called artillery logs, Kosor hopes that this issue will soon be resolved and that the upcoming report from the chief Hague prosecutor on Croatia’s cooperation will be positive.
