The Croatian Institute for Standards (HZN) has been admitted to the membership of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) effective January 1 of next year at an extraordinary General Assembly of the organization held on November 25 in Brussels, as announced by HZN.
Following its recent admission to full membership in the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC), and now with membership in CEN, HZN has achieved one of its strategic goals by becoming an equal participant in European standardization, the Institute emphasizes. HZN’s applications for membership in the European standardization organizations CEN (European Committee for Standardization) and CENELEC (European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization) were submitted in June of this year. The results of an independent assessment showed that HZN met the conditions, which fall within its scope of responsibility, for full membership in these European organizations. By including HZN in European standardization, the obligation from the National Program of the Republic of Croatia for accession to the European Union for the year 2009 has been fulfilled, and one of the conditions for closing negotiations in Chapter 1 – Free Movement of Goods has been ensured. The admission of the Croatian Institute for Standards to CEN and CENELEC, the Institute states, is the result of years of systematic development of Croatian standardization and its alignment with the principles, processes, and procedures of European standardization.
