Approximately 150 workers of the Pevec group protested today in front of the shopping center in Jankomir, demanding payment of salaries for September and October. The protest was organized by the Trade Union of Croatian Workers, and as union representative Nikola Šuman pointed out, the owner Zdravko Pevec and the CEO of the Pevec group Josip Baotić addressed the gathered workers, but they did not say anything new nor was any agreement reached.
Šuman stated in a statement for Hina that nothing concrete was agreed upon and that he would submit a request for one-time financial assistance to the Government and Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor. The legal regulations for the strike have been initiated, and in the next few days, a mediation process will take place, and if no agreement is reached during that time, a strike by Pevec workers will begin, Šuman emphasized. He reiterated that the workers have not received their salaries for September and October and that the salary debts, according to the union’s estimates, amount to about 4.5 million kuna per month. Pevec group workers also peacefully protested on Saturday in nine Pevec shopping centers across Croatia, demanding payment of salaries for September and October. (H)
