Italian entrepreneur living in Split, Riccardo Mazzucchelli, donated as much as 100 thousand kuna for demining Croatia at the humanitarian dinner Night of a Thousand Dinners organized by the American and Canadian embassies in Zagreb.
Among the speakers who thanked the attendees for their contributions was the President of the Croatian Parliament Luka Bebić, who emphasized that about 950 square meters are still mined, reminding that Croatia is a specific case as it is one of the few countries that bears the largest part of the demining costs itself, specifically over 80 percent of the total costs, or 1.5 billion kuna so far. The USA has helped Croatia with 22 million dollars on the path to a mine-free country, said American Ambassador James Foley, while the American Chamber of Commerce has contributed 40 million kuna since 2001, when it began its engagement in demining the country.
