The Croatian Drivers’ Union will organize a protest gathering of drivers currently employed at Pevec transport d.o.o. in front of the Pevec Management building in Bjelovar at eight o’clock, it was announced at today’s press conference.
At the protest, we will offer drivers the option to decide whether they will continue to wait in uncertainty as before or whether they will resign voluntarily or initiate bankruptcy proceedings, announced the union president Miljenko Gočin. After the collapse of the Pevec empire, about 290 drivers remain at Pevec transport who do not know what their fate will be or whether they will even be able to collect their claims, says Gočin.
The company’s bank account has been blocked by the tax administration, fuel deliveries have been suspended while leasing companies are seizing cargo vehicles. Drivers have been left without jobs and with unclear status, and Pevec owes them two salaries and five daily allowances, which amounts to between 20,000 kuna and 30,000 kuna per person. Gočin says that by gathering in front of the Management in Bjelovar, drivers will give the employer a chance to address them and explain the situation so that they can make a decision about their next steps.
If Pevec does not do this, the union will suggest to the drivers that they resign voluntarily in order to gain the right to compensation from the Croatian Employment Service, or to initiate bankruptcy proceedings so that their claims are classified immediately behind the claims of the tax administration. We have already asked the employer several times for a statement regarding the future of the drivers, we have also spoken with Zdravko and Višnja Pevec, but we have not reached any agreement. It is clear that the company is sinking, and no one wants to explain to the drivers what awaits them, concluded Gočin. (H)
