Kosor: Capital projects questionable, privileged pensions are being reduced

Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor, in her speech at the traditional gathering of economists in Opatija, announced an additional review and further reduction of privileged pensions. Kosor also emphasized that all directors or heads of public enterprises who meet the savings plan by the end of the year will be replaced, reports the portal novilist.hr.

The Prime Minister highlighted that she will initiate a reform of local government, specifically the abolition of some municipalities, for which she expects political consensus from all parties. All major infrastructure and capital projects are going under review, and completely new sources of financing are being sought for all these projects. Although she did not clarify what exactly this entails, Kosor announced a new state housing project for citizens. There will be no free textbooks for everyone in 2010, but, according to the Prime Minister’s announcements, members of the Supervisory Boards of state companies should henceforth be elected through public tenders.
