Bandić Awaits Sanader’s Order for Salary Reductions

The Mayor of Zagreb, Milan Bandić, is ready to reduce salaries for city service employees, but only when he receives an order from the Government. – We do not live under a glass bell, we share the fate of all. All decisions made by the Government will be implemented by us – stated Bandić on Wednesday after the City Administration meeting. He reiterated that Zagreb will soon present its own anti-recession measures.

Additionally, the Administration proposed that the Mayor’s Office take over the responsibilities of the Professional Service of the Administration on May 18, the day after the local elections. According to the proposal, the Mayor’s Office will take over all officials and employees. – We will temporarily relocate all employees in professional services to the Mayor’s Office until a regulation on the organization of city institutes, offices, and services is adopted – said Vidoje Bulum, secretary of the administration.

The amendment to the decision on the working hours of hospitality establishments in the narrower center of Zagreb in the so-called tourist zone has also been accepted, allowing restaurants, inns, bars, pizzerias, and other hospitality establishments, as well as kiosks, to operate until 2 AM instead of 1 AM. Mayor Bandić stated that this is nothing new as most European metropolises have similar practices. (M.N.)
