Kroko International Aims to Save Levi’s Plant from Closure

After reading the story about the closure of the factory in Novi Marof, where Levi’s jeans were produced for 25 years, Denis Popović, the director and co-owner of Kroko International, reached out to Varteks with a letter of intent to purchase the plant.

As reported by Nedjeljni Jutarnji in an article by Vlado Vurušić, the story about the closure of Varteks’s plant, published a week ago, sparked a business idea in Denis Popović, the director of Kroko International, who decided to take over the plant with about 160 workers.

Kroko International, with its production of military and police equipment, has recently been opening new markets, securing new favorable contracts, and therefore, according to Popović, is expanding its production in Croatia. The Novi Marof plant, with experienced workers and established, reliable technology, seems to him like a good opportunity.

Varteks’s CEO Zoran Košćec stated to Jutarnji that they first need to consider Kroko’s offer, see what it specifically means, and that they will be able to discuss it next week.

Fifteen Croatian companies are associated with Kroko in the production of military and police equipment, totaling 2,500 workers, and Popović claims they have work to employ at least as many more people. The success of Kroko began, as Popović notes, with the production of equipment for 50 of our soldiers in the ISAF mission in Afghanistan, after which soldiers from other countries in the same mission began inquiring about that equipment, and such uniforms were also ordered by the Croatian Army. Now Kroko has orders from several countries, but they cannot meet them due to a lack of facilities and workforce, writes Nedjeljni Jutarnji.
