The Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration hopes for the imminent abolition of Canadian visas for Croatian citizens, and MVPEI is also aware of the initiative by opposition Canadian Liberal MP Borys Wrzesnewsky, who submitted a petition to the Canadian Parliament for the abolition of visas for Croatian citizens, Hina learned on Wednesday from MVPEI.
Croatia, as learned from MVPEI, is intensively working with the Canadian government on the abolition of visas for Croatian citizens and is grateful for the support of MP Wrzesnewsky as well as Canadian citizens who have supported this petition with their signatures. According to available data, approximately 1,500 Canadians have signed the petition for the abolition of visas for Croatian citizens wishing to visit Canada as tourists, business people, or to visit family, including members of the St. Leopold Mandić parish, the Croatian Football Club "Jadran", and the Croatian Folklore Ensemble "Croatian" from Ottawa.
The bilateral relations between Canada and Croatia are at the highest level, as evidenced by high-level visits between the two countries. Last year, Canada abolished the controversial form for issuing visas for Croatian citizens, which among other things required detailed information about possible participation in the Homeland War. In January of this year, Canada abolished visas for members of the Croatian Armed Forces traveling officially to that country. The abolition of tourist visas for Croatian citizens would further strengthen relations between the two countries, emphasizes MVPEI. (H)
