Approximately 600 thousand tax returns received, deadline expires on March 2

The Tax Administration has so far received approximately 600 thousand of the expected 1.1 million income tax returns for the year 2008, for which the deadline for submission this year expires on March 2 at midnight, the Ministry of Finance announced today.

In order to facilitate the submission of annual income tax returns for citizens, the Tax Administration has extended the working hours of regional offices and their respective branches, where returns will be accepted on Saturday, February 28 until 3 PM, and on Monday, March 2 until 7 PM. In addition to submitting to the competent branch of the Tax Administration according to their place of residence or usual residence, tax returns can also be sent by mail, and this must also be done by the deadline of March 2. Namely, since this year the last day for submitting tax returns falls on a non-working day, the Ministry reminds that the final deadline for submission is the first working day in March, that is, March 2.

The Ministry of Finance has previously announced that this year they expect a record number of annual income tax returns for 2008, as well as a record amount of refunds of overpaid taxes of around 1.8 billion kuna. Last year, the number of tax returns exceeded one million, with approximately 1.04 million submitted, and citizens were refunded more than 1.69 billion kuna of overpaid taxes based on annual income tax returns for 2007. The Ministry of Finance reminds that instructions for filling out the income tax return for 2008 and useful information for completing the returns have been published on the websites of the Tax Administration (www.porezna-uprava.hr) and the Ministry of Finance (www.mfin.hr). Citizens can also obtain information related to taxes at the Tax Administration contact center at the toll-free phone numbers – 0800 66 99 33 (tax exemptions, reliefs, and tax-deductible expenses for citizens), and 0800 1001 (reporting tax evasion, non-issuance of invoices, illegal work, other tax offenses, and complaints about the work of Tax Administration officials).  (H)
