The American publishing house Conde Nast announced on Wednesday the discontinuation of the German edition of Vanity Fair. The last issue of the German weekly, aimed at fashion enthusiasts and followers of social and political events, will be released this week, reported a spokesperson for the German edition.
The German edition of the magazine began publishing in February 2007, and the magazine was launched with a major advertising campaign. The mix of political topics and style and fashion advice was initially unusual for German readers, but it was quickly embraced. In a statement from Conde Nast’s CEO Jonathan Newhouse, it was noted that a decline in standards and poor financial conditions forced them to discontinue the German edition. Among Conde Nast’s publications in the German market, magazines such as Glamour, Myself, and GQ Style continue to be published.(H)
