The economic crisis could lead to the loss of five thousand journalism jobs in Spain by 2010, representing 20 percent of the total number of jobs in that sector, warned the Madrid Press Association (APM) on Saturday.
Everything must be done to avoid this disaster, said APM President Fernando Gonzalez Urbaneja at a gathering of around 150 people in Madrid who stood up in defense of journalists’ work.Španjolske medije teško su pogodili tehnološki razvoj i gospodarska kriza uz gubitak od 30 posto zarade od reklama početkom 2009. Neki, poput besplatnog dnevnog lista Metro, su ukinuti, a drugi su najavili velike redukcije radnih mjesta.
Urbaneja specified on Saturday that around 1,600 journalists have lost their jobs since last summer in Španjolskoj and that if nothing is done, five thousand journalists could be unemployed by 2010. The President of the Federation of Press Associations of Spain (FAPE), Magis Iglesias, emphasized that journalists are an "endangered species." (Hina)
