The Republic Union of Workers of Croatia has once again requested today that the Management of HT abandon this year’s declaration of technological surplus, which could leave around two hundred workers without jobs by summer.
The union is also demanding a 20 percent increase in severance pay, so that HT workers under the age of 31 would receive a severance payment of at least 300,000 kuna gross, while those over 31 would receive at least 330,000 kuna gross severance pay. If the Management does not accept our demands, we will initiate industrial actions that will be more costly for HT than fulfilling what we are asking for, said union president Jadranko Vehar at a press conference. Vehar reminded that he sent a letter to the Management of Deutsche Telekom, the majority owner of HT, requesting that 2009 be declared a “year of social peace” in HT, after they decided not to lay off workers in Germany this year.
However, the response from Germany was that they need to resolve this issue with the Management of HT, which, after having laid off more than 5,000 workers in recent years, intends to lay off another two hundred people by July. Vehar also accused the Management of poor personnel policy, which is causing a decline in the quality of the company’s services, leading HT to increasingly lose the race against competition, and for irrationality in advertising and the use of real estate.
