IGH: There is work, the problem is non-payment

There is plenty of work for designers and builders in Croatia, but a problem of payment delays is emerging, claims the Institute of Construction of Croatia (IGH). The current overdue receivables of IGH amount to 150 million kuna, while at this time last year they were half as much.

The company has responded to the difficult market conditions by postponing salary increases, issuing a directive for savings in all departments, halting hiring in administration, and implementing other measures. One of IGH’s main goals for the upcoming period is to increase foreign realization from the current 10% to 30%. IGH is currently active in Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Slovenia, Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Bulgaria, and is also starting activities in Algeria and Libya.

The most significant foreign projects are in Bosnia and Herzegovina for the design of the highway on the 5C corridor and between Banja Luka and Doboj. In Albania, IGH is overseeing the construction of the highway between Tirana and Pristina in the section that passes through Albania. In Montenegro, it is engaged in the design of a hydroelectric power plant and roads, in Slovenia on the design of the Drvača – Koper railway, and in Bulgaria, it won a tender for the design of water treatment plants in three cities.

In North Macedonia, IGH will design three bridges on the Skopje – Gevgelija highway, and it has received an invitation to participate in a tender for the design of ports and roads in Libya. Additionally, IGH is in the process of opening a company in its majority ownership in the European Union, which should facilitate raising loans to finance activities in Croatia. Initial discussions are also underway with the management of Vienna Airport about launching joint projects. IGH is also participating in 11 development projects with a sales value of 2 billion euros, the most important of which are the Zagreb Ban Center, Bundek Center, and Split Spaladium Center. (H)
