President of the Republic Stjepan Mesić stated that the statement by the President of the Croatian Chamber of Economy (HGK) Nadan Vidošević that Croatia will emerge from the crisis only in ten years is Vidošević’s personal opinion.
At the request of journalists, President Mesić, who attended the presentation of the monograph on Orahovica this evening at the Matica hrvatska, commented on today’s statement by the President of HGK Nadan Vidošević. When asked whether the ruling party is doing everything to get Croatia out of the crisis, Mesić replied that “the Government clearly has not done everything because we would not be in such a crisis as we are now.” President Mesić also believes that it would be pretentious for him to give the Government instructions on how to get out of the crisis.
The Croatian Chamber of Economy proposed today 15 measures to mitigate the crisis in Croatia, the first of which are a 10% reduction in state and local budget expenditures and directing those funds towards the economy.
Presenting these measures, HGK President Nadan Vidošević stated that Croatia’s deep structural crisis did not happen overnight and that its roots go back several decades as a consequence of the lack of a national development strategy and subservience to so-called stabilization programs. “We will not emerge from the crisis without a period of a decade. Whoever says otherwise is lying,” said Vidošević. (H)
