Death Threats to the Director of Zagreb Indoors

The director of the ATP tennis tournament Zagreb Indoors, Branimir Horvat, received an anonymous death threat linked to the surprising results at the tournament and betting activities.

Horvat stated that he received an email message today in Croatian, which among other things says that "this will be his last tournament."

"I am very scared because of the message and I believe it is connected to these surprising results at the tournament, although as the tournament director, I simply cannot influence that. After all, it is always in my interest for the main stars to go as far as possible in the tournament," said Horvat.

This case is linked to a betting scandal regarding the betting stakes on the victory of our Antonio Veić in a match against the big favorite, Argentine Guillermo Canas. Betting companies in Australia paid out around 16 million euros due to Veić’s victory. (H)
