The City of Zagreb’s administration approved 7.5 million kuna for the Croatian Handball Federation for the expenses of the World Handball Championship at a meeting held on Saturday. The funds are intended for accommodation of teams and officials, transportation of teams, protocol expenses, equipment for volunteers, and similar costs.
At a press conference following the meeting, Mayor Bandić emphasized that it was agreed to pay the HRS seven million kuna, and that the payment of an additional 500 thousand kuna was his initiative and proposal as a reward for Croatia’s advancement to the finals.
– I cannot estimate how much the City has earned as the host of the World Handball Championship, but I believe that the handball championship, as well as the other two major sporting events in a month – the already held World Ski Cup and the tennis tournament Zagreb Indoors starting on February 2 – are a great gain for Zagreb, said Mayor Bandić. He announced a grand medal celebration tomorrow at 8 PM at Zagreb’s Ban Jelačić Square.
Among other current issues of the city government, it is worth mentioning the acceptance of proposals for amendments and supplements to the urban planning documents (UPU) for the Business Zone Veliko Polje and Odra II, as well as the Detailed Plan for the expansion of the Markovo Polje cemetery. All three proposals have been sent to public discussion. The Head of the City Office for Strategic Planning and Development, Jadranka Veselić Bruvo, stated that the reasons for the amendments and supplements to the UPU of the Business Zone Veliko Polje are changes in the Zagreb-Sisak highway project, and the goal is to realize a representative business zone at the entrance to the city from the direction of the Airport.
