The lawyer of 91-year-old Hollywood actress Zsa Zsa Gabor announced that the actress lost 10 million dollars invested in the financial pyramid of Bernard Madoff, the “con artist of the century,” who was arrested in December.
New York investment manager Madoff, a 70-year-old veteran of American Wall Street, admitted to prosecutors that he defrauded investors of 50 billion dollars in a massive pyramid scheme that collapsed amid the global financial crisis. Zsa Zsa Gabor is not the only Madoff victim in Hollywood. Significant losses were suffered by Kevin Bacon, a collaborator of film director Steven Spielberg, and Jeffrey Katzenberg, his partner from the DreamWorks studio. The scam also affected screenwriter Eric Roth, who worked on the script for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," a film that received the most nominations for this year’s Oscars. (H)
