Catastrophic Illiquidity

The total turnover on the domestic capital market today was only 21 million kuna, with only three stocks having a turnover greater than one million kuna. The largest decline was experienced by companies in the construction sector, while the most liquid stocks, HT and Atlantska plovidba, can boast a slight increase in prices.

Today, the domestic market was characterized by considerable stagnation and pessimism, which manifested in catastrophically low turnovers. Only three stocks had a turnover greater than one million kuna, and Crobex fell by 0.91 percent, closing at 1,760 points. The HT stock achieved a total turnover of 6.9 million kuna, with a price increase of 0.47 percent, closing at 220 kuna. Atlantska plovidba collected 4.9 million kuna in turnover with a price increase of 1.13 percent.
The last millionaire of the day was the Ingra stock, which, with a turnover of 1.5 million kuna, is down by 4.98 percent today. Other construction companies had a similar effect. Ingra is down by 4.05 percent (590 thousand kuna in turnover), and IGH by 1.07 percent (580 thousand kuna in turnover).

The largest drop today was in the Adris stock, which plummeted by 17.1 percent, but with a laughably low turnover of 170 thousand kuna. Besides Adris, there were a few other strange price movements today. Thus, the Ina stock experienced a price increase of 0.44 percent (340 thousand kuna in turnover), despite the fact that this company is incurring losses due to the gas crisis. The Podravka stock also proved its status as a defensive investment today with a price increase of 0.24 percent (800 thousand kuna in turnover).
The event of the day is the inauguration of the new American president, Barack Obama. Although a stock market euphoria was expected to be triggered by this historic act, American indices are currently in the red, making any spillover effect to the domestic market unlikely for now. (Amir Kulenović)
