Measures 5 and 6 for Reduction and Suspension of Gas Supply Still in Effect

Thanks to the implemented measures for the reduction and suspension of gas supply to unprotected consumers, the system remains stable despite the fact that gas imports from Russia have been absent for the 11th day, reported the Ministry of Economy, Labor and Entrepreneurship.

In Croatia, measures 5 and 6 for the reduction and suspension of supply from the Regulation on the Security of Natural Gas Supply are still in effect. Ministry spokesperson Tomislav Mazal emphasizes that the system remains stable thanks to the measures taken, despite the fact that gas imports from Russia have been absent for 11 days, and considering that the supply of Russian gas of 131,000 cubic meters per hour, which is now missing, is very important for the stability of the system during the cold winter period.

The Ministry notes that warmer weather and the measures taken have also contributed to a reduction in consumption. At average temperatures of minus 5 degrees Celsius, daily consumption was stabilized at 10.5 million cubic meters, reduced to 9.9 million at a temperature of minus 2 degrees the day before yesterday, and yesterday at a temperature of zero degrees Celsius to 9 million cubic meters. For comparison, the Ministry states that under normal conditions, without the implemented measures 5 and 6, and without Petrokemija (which is under maintenance in January), on January 2, at the same temperature as the day before yesterday, consumption was about 18 percent higher.

The Ministry’s calculations also show that consumption under normal conditions, on days without any reductions, at the same temperatures was 13.7 million cubic meters at minus 2 degrees on December 29 and 12.6 million cubic meters on December 27 at zero degrees, leading to the conclusion that the expected daily consumption without the reductions in effect would be about 40 percent higher. Of course, in a longer colder period, those daily consumption values would increase, the Ministry notes. According to data from the relevant Ministry, gas inflows into the system from domestic production fields are at maximum levels. At 8:00 AM, inflows were recorded at Panon at 111,400 cubic meters per hour, and in the Northern Adriatic at 104,800 cubic meters per hour, says Mazal. (Hina)
