Hungary expects to meet its gas needs primarily from domestic sources and will continue gas supplies to Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Croatia that began earlier this week, said Hungarian Minister of Energy Csaba Molnar on Sunday.
Molnar stated that Hungary’s daily gas consumption is estimated at 61 to 64 million cubic meters, which is expected to be covered by 53 million cubic meters from reserves, nine million from domestic production, and four million imported from Western Europe.
"These resources available to us for the day are sufficient to securely cover daily consumption, therefore we do not plan to introduce restrictions," Molnar said at a press conference. He mentioned that the Hungarian oil company MOL and the German E.ON Ruhrgas will export 4.7 million cubic meters to Serbia, 1.5 million to Bosnia, and one million to Croatia via Austria on Sunday.
Molnar indicated that he cannot predict when the supply of Russian gas through Ukraine will resume despite an agreement between the two sides to deploy international observers on the pipelines in Russia and Ukraine. "I cannot say when the gas will arrive, but I think no one can at this moment," he said. (H)
