President of the Republic Stjepan Mesić commented today for Radio Split on the gas crisis, stating that Qatar was ready to build a liquefied gas terminal in Croatia a few years ago, which was met with misunderstanding; however, he added, Qatar is still willing to make that investment.
"I have spoken again with the emir, they are still ready to invest in the terminal," said Mesić, who is on vacation in Hvar."When I was in Qatar six years ago and agreed with the emir there that Qatar would build a liquefied gas terminal with us – the investment would be two billion dollars and primarily our companies that would build that terminal would benefit, and today we would be secured regarding gas and would not depend solely on Russian gas – I was ridiculed," said Mesić. He stated that the Qatari emir awarded Croatia, specifically the Split company "Konstruktor", a large job in Qatar worth 220 million dollars. (H)
