Hvar citizens demand annulment of illegal contracts with Orco group

A group of citizens from Hvar, current and former employees of Sunčani Hvar, and associations of original owners have informed Mayor Pjerin Bebić that they have filed two criminal complaints with the State Attorney’s Office against the Government, the Croatian Privatization Fund, and the Orco group.

The original owners have also filed a criminal complaint against the hotel company for the alienation of real estate. They claim that in Sunčani Hvar it is not a public-private partnership, but a classic privatization through illegal recapitalization. They believe that there is also money laundering, bribery, and corruption involved in the entire case. For all these reasons, they are demanding that Mayor Bebić urgently convene a public gathering of citizens to demand that the Government annul all harmful and illegal contracts with the Orco group. The authors assert that the contract with Orco has nothing to do with public-private partnership and that it is pure privatization under the old, illegal system. Additionally, they suspect money laundering, bribery, and corruption, and blame the Government for misleading employees, citizens, the City of Hvar, and all citizens of the Republic of Croatia with its false statements. A letter to the mayor draws attention to the fact that in the hotels of Sunčani Hvar, there have been 257,000 fewer overnight stays in the last two years compared to previous years, and that the Orco group has not paid 380,000 kuna in debt for the residence tax to the City Tourist Board. The hotels are burdened with large loans, only three out of a total of ten have been renovated, and there are also concerning million kuna losses that are currently being incurred. (HRT)
