Croatia is ready to provide strong guarantees to Slovenia, stated Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader on Tuesday in New York.
"We expect reactions from Slovenia. Our position is known. We are for strong guarantees that Croatia can always provide, if Slovenia and the European Union request it, that no document used in negotiations will prejudge the border with Slovenia," emphasized Sanader, adding that this is very correct and within European standards.
In response to a journalist’s request to comment on French President Nicholas Sarkozy’s statements regarding Croatia’s progress in the accession process to the Union, Prime Minister Sanader said that when the EU chair speaks about this, and the President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso and Commissioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn said the same a few days ago in Brussels, "then we can say that Croatia has a very, very clear future regarding EU membership, definitely and beyond any doubt."
Sanader said he will "discuss the Middle East" with Rice.
Announcing his meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Sanader said he will "discuss the Middle East, as well as the southeastern neighborhood of Croatia where very active assistance from the international community is still needed."
