With Government Incentives, 9000 Households Received High-Speed Internet

More than 9000 new users in areas of special state concern and in mountainous regions have gained broadband internet access as part of the government incentive program. By the end of September 2008, Croatia had a total of 623 thousand broadband internet connections.

The Croatian Post and Electronic Communications Agency (HAKOM), as the holder of the Government’s project to promote the development of broadband internet access in areas where there is insufficient interest, pays operators between 370 and 7000 kuna per user from a total of 16.1 million kuna for incentives. Ten operators who met the basic and technical conditions set out in the tender have the right to funds for each newly connected user. The amount that the operator receives per connected user depends on the type of access and whether the user is connected to newly built or existing infrastructure. Of the 9000 new users, 21 percent are connected to newly built infrastructure. (HAKOM, H. M.)
