Ingra would build hydropower plants in Montenegro

Interest in the construction of four hydropower plants in Montenegro has been expressed by 20 global companies and consortiums, including the Croatian company Ingra.

The list of interested companies for the construction of four hydropower plants on the Morača River was published today by the Montenegrin Ministry of Economic Development. This involves the construction of four hydropower plants on the Morača – Andrijevo, Raslovići, Milunovići, and Zlatica, with a total capacity of 238 megawatts (MW) and an annual production of 693 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity.

The Government of Montenegro issued a call for expressions of interest in utilizing the untapped hydropower potential at the beginning of October this year, through a public-private partnership. The Ministry of Economic Development, which oversees the entire process, emphasized the exploitation of the potential of the Morača River through the construction of four hydropower plants.

Potential investors were required to submit their interest by December 1, and letters of intent were sent by 20 companies and consortiums, including Zagreb’s Ingra. Among the interested parties are Italian companies Edison and Enel, Austrian Verbund, EVN AG, Voith Siemens Hydro Power Generation, Porr Technobau und Umwelt, and Energie Steiermark, Norwegian Statkraft, German RWE AG, and Russian Zarubezhvodstroy. Interest was also expressed by the UEF Hydro Wind Group consortium from the United Kingdom, as well as Fortum Power and Heat Oy from Finland and Hungarian Power Companies from Hungary.

In order to prepare the technical documentation for this project, extensive geotechnical and hydrological research has been conducted, and it is expected that by the end of February 2009, a comprehensive legal analysis, detailed spatial plan, and strategic environmental impact assessment will be completed.
