The testing phase of HDTV signal distribution is currently underway and is available for free to all users, while the commercial offer of B.net’s Xvision HD service is expected to launch in early 2009, according to a statement from the cable operator.
B.net, the leading cable operator in Croatia, will commercially offer high-definition (HD) television programs starting next year. As of today, all interested users who wish to experience the benefits of high-definition television can request activation of this service and watch HDTV programs free of charge until January 1, B.net announced.
B.net offers National Geographic HD during the testing phase of its high-definition programming. In addition to this program, B.net is finalizing negotiations with several other HD content providers, so the number of available Xvision HD channels at the time of the commercial launch of the service is expected to rise to around five.
“B.net has made all technological preparations, such as upgrading its distribution network to digital technology, which allows us to now offer television programs in much better high definition to all our users who have decided to use digital reception. Unlike some competing operators, the reception of programs in HD quality in the case of B.net does not depend on their distances from our network centers, nor are there other technological limitations and prerequisites of that kind, so we can offer this service to all our users, who can request free activation of the service until January 1,” said Adrian Ježina, CEO of B.net.
