Australian Minister for Home Affairs Bob Debus announced today that the Government will present a draft law aimed primarily at combating identity theft and fraud on social web portals such as Facebook.

Fraudsters using portals like što are Facebook have become the target of new laws primarily because identity theft in Australia is a contentious issue that costs the country more than one billion dollars a year. This criminal act includes a range of offenses, from stealing credit card numbers to stealing personal data, and even opening bank accounts under false identities and taking out loans. – If you leave personal information on a portal like što is Facebook, you may leave enough data for fraudsters to steal your identity and based on that open bank accounts – stated the Minister for Home Affairs before the Australian Parliament, adding that the problem of identity theft in this way is quite widespread around the world and that Australian legislation must align with new offense trends.  The new law will also cover offenses such as using  an identity to commit a crime or possessing equipment that can create a false identity.  (To.
