Arena Zagreb will be completed by December 15

The CEO of “Ingra” Igor Oppenhein announced today that “Arena Zagreb” will be completed by December 15, after which a grand opening will follow. The mayor Milan Bandić also expressed satisfaction with the completion of the works during a regular visit to the construction site of the “Arena”.

"There is no delay, and everything is proceeding as planned. We will agree on the date for the grand opening together," said Mayor Bandić, adding that the City Office for Spatial Planning has already begun the technical inspection of the Arena, which will take 15 to 20 days. Oppenhein reported that internal works are being intensively completed. The central heating station has been put into operation, so the radiator network is already heating, work on the stands and landscaping is being completed, and the roof has been tested under a load of 17 tons.

"We believe that all works will be completed by December 15, and after that, there will be an appropriate moment for the opening of the hall," he said, noting that the appropriate permit must be issued beforehand. "Once it is issued, the hall will be ready to receive visitors," he added. Bandić reported that most of the surrounding roads have been asphalted and that this will also be completed in about 10 days. "In two weeks, we will toast with champagne here because we have done a large part of the work and met the deadlines," he said.

When asked by journalists whether the City of Zagreb would allocate 10 million kuna at the request of the Croatian Handball Federation for the organization of the World Handball Championship, Bandić replied that the City of Zagreb, together with the Government of the Republic of Croatia, stands behind ensuring that the championship takes place, emphasizing that the main prerequisite for this is the hall, without which there can be no semifinals or finals. "The priority is the completion of the hall," he added. "To all the concerned parties, I message that we will agree on the cost-sharing at the meeting of the Organizing Committee together with the Government and the five cities where the competitions are held," Bandić noted, stating that costs must be transparent and correspond to the current economic situation in Croatia and Zagreb.
