Cholera Out of Control

The cholera epidemic in Zimbabwe has affected more than half of the territory, claiming 53 lives and infecting 1,600 people in just one day, the UN reported in Geneva. It is estimated that 366 people have died since August, and there are 8,887 cases of illness.

The cholera epidemic is not under control, stated the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). The first cases of the disease, which spreads through water contaminated with human feces, were recorded in mid-August in the Chitungwiza region, south of Harare. (HRT)
