The main stock index of the Ljubljana Stock Exchange, SBI 20, fell by 7.96 percent today compared to Wednesday, sinking below 4000 points for the first time since January 2004. At the same time, the ‘blue chip’ index SBI TOP lost 8.09 percent of its value.
The shares of Ljubljana Airport lost the most, around 13 percent, while shares of the pharmaceutical company Krka, Telekom Slovenije, and the insurance company Triglav lost just under ten percent. The price of Petrol shares fell by about 8.5 percent, while shares of Mercator and Gorenje dropped by around seven percent, and Luka Koper lost nearly 6 percent. Shares worth 5.3 million euros changed hands, with more than half of that related to trading in Krka shares, followed by Telekom Slovenije and Mercator. In the sharp decline of prices of all major shares, in which the Slovenian stock index recorded its largest daily drop in the last ten years, Slovenian stock market analysts see signs that the unstable situation in financial markets is not yet calming down and that prospects for recovery are not in sight.
