Ozren Kanceljak leaves Večernji list

Ozren Kanceljak is leaving his position as director of Večernji list digital. Whether he will remain in the Večernji list Group or Styria, he could not say, as he is currently negotiating with Večernjak and has other offers as well.

– In the two years of my mandate, I have fulfilled all the goals set for the three-year period. We launched additional channels and platforms (SMS, MMS news, RSS ‘widgets’ – Avenue Mall, B.net RSS ‘flash’ news), as well as new products (sportal.hr and Večernjak’s Blogosphere). In doing so, vecernji.hr has become the fourth portal in terms of daily visits (an average of 160,000 visitors per day), right after ‘news’ portals such as net.hr, tportal, and index.hr. We also hold second place in revenue from advertising space sales – Kanceljak told us.

He adds that Večernji list digital now needs to undergo an intensive integration process (especially of the editorial staff) together with its parent company, Večernji list, and that it has fully prepared for this process. – When it comes to my career, I assessed that it is the ideal time to start new negotiations about new business projects and challenges. I am deeply convinced that the next at least two years, which will be marked by recession for many, are actually an opportunity for the right players who can capture a large market share under these conditions, which will then be much easier to defend – says Kanceljak. This turn of events is somewhat unexpected, especially considering that Kanceljak recently presented two new projects (Večernji FM and Večernji B.net RSS news) and announced that the Večernjak subsidiary he heads is working on new projects.
