One of the demands of the Croatian Employers’ Association, recently published in the media, to reduce the membership fee to the Croatian Tourist Board by 25 percent, has faced sharp criticism from certain hoteliers and agencies.
Professional associations believe that this fee is necessary for promotion in both domestic and foreign markets and that it should not be reduced at this time. The Association of Croatian Travel Agencies emphasized in its statement that such a measure would be counterproductive for Croatian tourism. – It is well known that tourism, through its multiplicative factor, has great significance for the entire economy, and in 2009, when various measures are being taken to prevent its effects from diminishing due to the global crisis, such a measure would be counterproductive. With additional support funds from the Ministry of Tourism, the system of tourist boards is expected to invest even more funds in promotion in both foreign and domestic markets – it was highlighted in the statement.
