One Million Euros Reward for Information on Mladić

The promised reward of one million euros for information that will lead to the location and arrest of the fugitive Hague indictee Ratko Mladić remains in effect, stated Rasim Ljajić, the president of the Serbian National Council for Cooperation with the Hague Tribunal (ICTY), in an interview with Belgrade’s “Večernje novosti” on Friday.

The decision to announce this reward was made in October 2007 by the National Security Council, chaired by Serbian President Boris Tadić, the newspaper reports, highlighting Ljajić’s words that this reward is absolutely valid."Anyone who provides us with the right information that leads to the arrest of Mladić will receive one million euros. Information about the location where Mladić is hiding should be submitted to the Ministry of Interior of Serbia, and the reward will be paid by the state from the budget," Ljajić stated, adding that this reward "demonstrates Belgrade’s determination to fulfill the remaining obligations to the Tribunal as soon as possible and that there is political will for the extradition of Mladić."

The National Security Council has also announced a reward of 250,000 euros for the other Hague indictee Goran Hadžić, according to "Večernje novosti," which adds that "the same reward was secured for citizens who reveal the whereabouts of Stojan Župljanin, who has since been arrested and extradited to The Hague, but no one received that reward because he was found and arrested by security services." According to Ljajić, no reward was announced for information on Radovan Karadžić because "the former president of RS was not a citizen of Serbia, and there was no information that he was hiding on the territory of Serbia."
