Personal consumption is expected to grow at a rate of 1.8 percent in 2009, announced Finance Minister Ivan Šuker at the Economists’ Conference in Opatija. According to Šuker’s estimates, investments will grow by 1.7 percent annually.
Interestingly, the government estimates that exports will grow by 3.1 percent annually, while imports will only grow by 1.6 percent. As a result of these trends, GDP growth is currently estimated to be between 2 and 2.5 percent in 2009. If the business community believes these estimates, it will provide important guidelines for adjusting many companies’ business plans for the upcoming period. (M. Š.)
