Due to the broadcasting of inappropriate program content, the Council for Electronic Media decided at today’s meeting to file misdemeanor charges against the publishers RTL Televizija and Nova TV, while HRT received a warning.
The Council will report RTL for the show "Zvijezde extra", Nova TV for the show "Trenutak istine", while HRT received a warning for the series "Bitange i princeze", and segments in the news program "Dnevnik"."The publishers have offended human dignity in the mentioned program content, published segments of immoral and pornographic content, and unlawfully disclosed the identity of a person, violating the right to privacy and fundamental human rights and freedoms," the Council explained in a statement after today’s meeting.
The Council is concerned "about the increase in the number of inappropriate content in television programs, especially those broadcast at times typically designated for so-called family viewing of television," and calls on publishers to refrain from such practices and to respect constitutional and legal provisions regarding the preservation of human dignity and fundamental human rights, particularly those concerning the protection of minors. The Council also announces "further monitoring of disputed program content" and the application of "harsher legally prescribed penalties," the statement signed by the President of the Council for Electronic Media, Zdravko Kedžo, states.
