Zagreb allocates eight million kuna for Christmas and New Year decoration

For the Christmas and New Year decoration of the center of Zagreb and city districts, around eight million kuna is planned to be spent this year, while last year 6.1 million kuna was spent on decoration.

After public tenders, the City Office for Spatial Planning, Environmental Protection, City Construction, Construction, Communal Affairs, and Traffic awarded the festive decoration to the company Elicom d.o.o. from Zagreb for a total amount of 7.29 million kuna, and the procurement of Christmas trees to the subsidiary Zrinjevac of Zagreb Holding for 765,672 kuna. The City Office states that the reason for the real increase of 1.8 million kuna is the procurement of new lighting.

Christmas trees, valued from 15 thousand to 35 thousand kuna, will be placed in Ban Josip Jelačić Square, Markov Square, and Kvaternik Square, as well as in city districts where an additional 22 trees will be set up. The subsidiary “Zrinjevac” will also install light decorations on the Music Pavilion and on the trees in Zrinjevac Park and decorate the Manduševac fountain with an Advent wreath. This year, new Christmas and New Year decorations are being procured, including 30 3D balls with a diameter of one meter and 30 3D hearts, and all old-type bulbs will be replaced with modern LED diodes of high durability and low energy consumption. The total value of the new lighting fixtures is 3.39 million kuna.

The decoration will be installed in all streets as in previous years, and the decoration will also expand to some new streets: Domjanićeva, Tomićeva, part of Petrinjska to Amruševa, part of Gajeva to Hebrangova, and part of Preradovićeva to Teslina. For the first time, new decorations will be installed on the lighting poles in Kvaternik Square, as well as new decorations on both sides of the old Vlaška. Part of last year’s street decorations, the light chandeliers, will be installed on the extensions of Ilica from Frankopanska to British Square and in part of Vlaška Street from Draškovićeva to Vončinina. The festive decoration of the city will conclude on November 30 with the decoration of the central Christmas tree in Ban Josip Jelačić Square and the lighting of the first Advent candle. (H)
