Although we are facing a year of austerity called for by everyone – from the governor to the president, the government will not abandon the realization of four major infrastructure projects. However, the realization of some will be slightly delayed.
It is still unknown how much money from the budget will flow into the land bridge – Pelješac, the highway to Dubrovnik and Sisak, the lowland railway to Rijeka, and Zagreb Airport. Deputy Prime Minister Damir Polančec believes it is better to invest in such types of projects than to continue with consumption. However, many believe that maintaining economic growth in this way will be expensive. The government announces a surprise.
The cost of capital in international markets is rising, making future borrowing very unfavorable. The external debt, which is expected to reach as much as 90% of GDP next year, does not help either. Economic analyst Ante Babić believes that movement in that direction is possible and desirable. (Dnevnik HTV-a)
